The Girls In Tech Catalyst Conference is returning to Melbourne on 15-16 May 2019 for two life changing days. Expect international speakers, high energy panels, breakout sessions with industry leaders and meaningful conversations with your peers.
Girls In Tech
Girls In Tech Australia is part of a global non-profit organisation working to put an end to gender inequality in high-tech industries and startups. We are a group of volunteers – all women in technology – with a passion for change.
The focus is to create an open and supportive community where women can share their learnings, create connections and be inspired by each other.
More than half (56%) of women in technology leave their employers at the mid-level point in their careers. Girls in Tech is determined to change that by providing a vehicle of inspiration and empowerment to the next generation of women in business, leadership, and technology. It’s time to inspire confidence and innovation to achieve equity.
Catalyst Conference
Catalyst is Girls In Tech’s global conference. This year’s Catalyst Australia is being held at the Showtime Events precinct in Melbourne’s South Wharf Promenade on 15-16 May 2019. We are expecting over 250 attendees for this unique, one of a kind experience.
It definitely isn’t your traditional conference. With unbeatable swag bags, to wine and cheese, it’s an event built for women by women. This video from last year’s Catalyst Conference will provide a great overview.
What to Expect at Catalyst Australia 2019
The conference is divided into two key themes.
Day 1: Get Inspired
A combination of international and local speakers will grace the Catalyst stage on Day 1 to share their career journeys. Be inspired by their passion and personal stories, and learn from their practical tips. Expect to walk away energised and amazed!
Day 2: Learn a Skill
On Day 2 we get down to business with four workshop streams presented by our partners such as RMIT Online, Milk It Academy and Code Like a Girl. Spaces are limited so register via the Catalyst App.

Networking and connections
Catalyst welcomes everyone, and every gender. You can meet senior digital executives in enterprise organisations, through to startup founders and students.
Catalyst is a platform for genuine connections with peers and mentors. The electric energy in the room makes for uniquely empowering conversations. Be open to meeting your next work BFF!
4 reasons not to miss Catalyst Australia 2019
- Day 1 is all about our great line-up of speakers. The day concludes with the Great Debate, with our very own Girls In Tech spin. This year’s topic: Business vs. Tech: who wears the crown?
- The workshops on Day 2 provide the most incredible opportunity to learn a new skill, to take back to your business. These will take place in new venues within the Showtime precinct, so each workshop feels more intimate and valuable for our attendees.
- The one-on-one mentoring sessions with speakers and key industry leaders on Day 2. This is your chance to chat to the industry doers, create connections, network, and ask for advice to fast-track your career.
- The hub provides you with the opportunity to meet some of our partners and supporters such as Toyota, EY, Cognizent, Servian and Hays. Check out each of their spaces and experiences!
Finally, make sure you stop to take it all in. Enjoy yourself and make the most from the experience – I know I will!

I recently asked my manager (a women) to send me to one of these conferences… I am a JR level, and it turns out that the company believes in sending only Senior software engineers and managers… I feel like at the Jr /mid-level we might need it more than Jr, but… I guess not…
